Zepbound is the US brand of tirzepatide for weight management. If you want Zepbound in Seoul, VEI Clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam can review your current dose and history with Dr. HyunSung Park, an internal medicine specialist, and confirm at consultation which tirzepatide product is available in Korea, usually sold here as Mounjaro, then plan safe continuation.
Zepbound in Seoul: what you need to know first
Zepbound is a brand name used in the United States for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection that acts on GIP and GLP-1 receptors to reduce appetite and improve blood sugar regulation. It is approved there for chronic weight management, and also for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Mounjaro is the same active ingredient under another brand name, originally licensed for type 2 diabetes.
Brand names and licensed uses differ between countries. To our knowledge, tirzepatide in Korea has been supplied under the Mounjaro name, which is approved here for type 2 diabetes and for chronic weight management. Whether the Zepbound brand itself is available in Korea is something we confirm at your consultation, together with current pharmacy stock, rather than promise in advance. In practice, continuing Zepbound in Seoul usually means continuing tirzepatide under its Korean brand.
How we continue your treatment
Dr. HyunSung Park, a board-certified internal medicine specialist and ECFMG-certified graduate of the State University of New York, reviews why you started tirzepatide, how long you have been on it, your current dose, and how you have tolerated each step. Bring your prescription label or a photo of your pen or vial, recent lab results, and your list of other medicines.
If you have been off treatment for more than a couple of weeks, restarting at your previous dose can bring strong nausea and vomiting, so you may need to restart at a lower dose and step up again. If you are moving from the US pen to a different device or product, Dr. Park explains the dose equivalence and teaches the injection technique for the product you will use here. Do not carry over doses from compounded or online tirzepatide without telling us, because their strength and quality cannot be assumed.
If your last blood tests are more than a few months old, we usually repeat the basics: HbA1c, kidney and liver function, and lipids. These confirm it is still safe to continue, show how your metabolic health has changed since you started, and give your doctor at home a clear record when you return.
Who tirzepatide suits, and who should not use it
Tirzepatide for weight management is intended for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea or high cholesterol. It is not suitable, or needs special care, if any of the following apply:
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or MEN2
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
- Previous pancreatitis or current gallbladder disease
- Severe digestive disease such as gastroparesis
- Type 1 diabetes, or use of insulin or a sulfonylurea without a monitoring plan
- Birth control pills, which may work less reliably after starting or raising the dose
Side effects and practical life in Seoul
Common effects are nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, indigestion and lower appetite, mostly early on and after dose increases. Korean meals are often shared, rich in broth and served in large portions, so smaller plates, eating slowly and stopping at the first sign of fullness help a lot. Rich barbecue, fried chicken and late drinking sessions are common triggers for nausea.
Less common risks include gallstones, pancreatitis, dehydration affecting the kidneys, and low blood sugar if you also use certain diabetes medicines. Keep pens refrigerated as the label directs, and plan injection days around flights. If you need endoscopy or surgery while in Korea, tell the doctor you use tirzepatide, as it slows stomach emptying.
Red flags: when to call 119
Call 119 or go to an emergency department for severe upper abdominal pain that persists or spreads to the back, repeated vomiting with inability to keep fluids down, pain under the right ribs with fever or yellow eyes, black or bloody stools, fainting, or swelling of the face or throat with breathing difficulty. Contact the clinic for milder but persistent symptoms, a lump in the neck, or trouble swallowing.

Common questions
Can I buy Zepbound in Seoul?
We do not assume the Zepbound brand is available in Korea. Tirzepatide has been supplied here under the Mounjaro name, and we confirm what is available, and in what doses, at your consultation. A prescription from a Korean doctor is needed.
Is Mounjaro the same as Zepbound?
Both contain tirzepatide made by the same manufacturer, and the active ingredient works the same way. The brands differ in their licensed uses by country and sometimes in pen design. Dr. Park explains how your dose translates.
Can I bring my Zepbound pens from the US?
Travelers may be allowed to bring a personal supply of prescribed medicine, but rules can change, so check with Korean customs before you travel. Carry the original packaging and your prescription, and keep the pens cool. We can review your supply and timing at a visit.
I missed several weeks of injections. Can I restart at my old dose?
Often not. After a gap, restarting at a high dose can cause significant nausea and vomiting. Dr. Park usually recommends a lower dose and a short step-up period, depending on how long you stopped.
Does Korean insurance cover tirzepatide for weight loss?
Weight management treatment is generally self-pay in Korea. We explain the full cost of consultation, tests and medicine before you start and provide itemized English receipts for your insurer.
Can VEI Clinic share records with my US doctor?
Yes. We can provide an English summary of your visits, doses and lab results so your care stays continuous when you return home or move again.
