Quick Intro

VEI Clinic Apgujeong is an English-friendly internal-medicine clinic providing practical, evidence-based care for type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and metabolic risk—with same-day labs and realistic nutrition/activity plans. We’re on the 3rd floor of Beneheim City, 162 Apgujeong-ro, a short walk from Apgujeong Station (Exit 5).

We primarily manage type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. We coordinate closely with endocrinology for type 1 diabetes, complex insulin regimens, pregnancy (gestational diabetes), and advanced device therapy when needed.

What We Do (tailored—no one-size-fits-all)

Assess & Diagnose

  • A1c, fasting glucose, optional OGTT (when appropriate)
  • Kidney/liver panels, urine albumin/creatinine ratio
  • Lipid profile (± ApoB), blood pressure & cardiovascular risk mapping
  • Neuropathy screen (monofilament), foot exam; retinal screening referral

Treat & Monitor

  • Lifestyle first: protein & fiber targets, Korean-food meal patterning, step goals, zone-2 + strength template, sleep plan
  • Medications (when indicated):
  • Metformin
  • SGLT2 inhibitors (heart/kidney protective in eligible patients)
  • GLP-1/dual agonists (for glycemic control & weight in selected patients)
  • Statins/BP meds based on risk; insulin initiation/titration when appropriate
  • Glucose tracking: finger-stick plans and short-term CGM trials for learning (select cases)
  • Comorbidity prevention: vaccines (flu, COVID, pneumococcal, hepatitis B, shingles by age), smoking/alcohol counseling

Coordinate Care

  • Retina exam (ophthalmology), nephrology for CKD, cardiology when risk is high, podiatry for foot issues, dietitian support

Visit Flow (Typical)

  1. Baseline consult (30–45 min) → history, meds, goals, exam, point-of-care glucose; order labs
  2. Same-day labs → A1c, CMP, lipids, urine albumin/creatinine
  3. Results visit (20–30 min) → personalized plan: meds, nutrition/activity, targets & timelines
  4. Follow-ups → quick check at 4–6 weeks; fuller review at 8–12 weeks with A1c recheck (as indicated)

Targets & Tracking (personalized)

  • A1c: individualized goal (often ≤7%, looser or tighter based on age/comorbids)
  • BP: typically <130/80 mmHg if tolerated
  • Lipids: LDL/ApoB goals based on overall CVD risk
  • Kidney: urine albumin/creatinine at least annually once diagnosed
  • Feet/Eyes: annual exam (earlier if symptoms)

We’ll set your numbers and recheck intervals in writing.

Sick-Day & Travel Support

  • Written sick-day rules (hydration, carb-containing fluids if needed, when to hold certain meds like metformin/SGLT2, and when to test ketones)
  • Jet-lag and time-zone insulin/oral-med adjustments
  • Fit-to-fly and medication letters; supplies checklist

Safety: When to Use the ER (don’t wait for a clinic)

  • Very high sugar with vomiting, abdominal pain, fruity breath, deep/rapid breathing, severe drowsiness/confusion
  • Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, focal weakness/slurred speech
  • Signs of severe infection, dehydration, or rapidly worsening foot wounds

FAQs

Do you start medications at the first visit?
If indicated, yes—
shared decision-making on metformin/SGLT2/GLP-1 or insulin, with clear monitoring and follow-up.

Can I try a CGM if I’m not on insulin?
Sometimes—for
short-term learning in selected type 2 cases. It’s not necessary for everyone.

How often will I need labs?
Typically
every 3 months until stable; then every 6–12 months, plus yearly kidney/eye/foot checks.

Can you help with weight management?
Yes—
food-first plans, resistance + zone-2 training, sleep/stress support, and medication options when appropriate.

Do you manage type 1 diabetes?
We provide supportive care and coordination but typically
co-manage with endocrinology for device/insulin-intensive therapy.
