Quick answer

If you are considering stem cell recovery after surgery in Seoul, VEI Clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam offers a consultation, not a stem cell drip. Dr. HyunSung Park, an internal medicine specialist and ISSCR member, explains the limited evidence and Korean legal rules, checks your recovery in coordination with your surgeon, and suggests proven support such as blood tests and nutrition.

Stem cell recovery after surgery in Seoul: the honest picture

Many visitors combine a cosmetic or orthopedic procedure in Seoul with a short stay, and some are offered a stem cell recovery drip that promises less swelling, faster wound healing and better scars. It is an understandable wish. The evidence, however, does not support these promises for routine recovery, and many of these drips contain no stem cells at all.

VEI Clinic runs this as a consultation-based program. Dr. HyunSung Park, a board-certified internal medicine specialist and member of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), reviews what operation you had, how you are recovering, the medicines you are taking and the product you have been offered. He then explains the research, the legal pathway in Korea and whether any option is suitable. We do not give stem cell infusions, and we do not perform surgery.

What is known, and what is marketing

Researchers are studying cell-based approaches for specific problems such as non-healing wounds, certain cartilage defects and bone healing, usually in carefully designed trials. In Korea, the lawful routes are an MFDS-approved product used for its approved indication, or treatment at a designated regenerative medical institution with a plan approved under the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act, amended in February 2025, which is aimed mainly at serious, rare or hard-to-treat conditions.

Routine recovery after liposuction, a facelift, a nose job or a knee arthroscopy does not fit those routes. Drips sold for post-surgery healing usually contain exosomes, conditioned media or growth factors, which are not living stem cells and are not approved in Korea as injectable treatments for recovery. An extra IV also adds a small risk of infection and fluid overload at a time when your body is already under strain.

The ISSCR advises patients to avoid unproven stem cell interventions sold outside clinical trials or approved use. If a product is pitched to you, ask what is inside, who made it, what approval covers it and what the risks are, and bring those answers to your consultation so Dr. Park can check them.

Proven support we can offer during recovery

Good healing depends on basics that are easy to overlook in a hotel room far from home. As an internal medicine clinic, we can help with:

  • A general check of your temperature, pulse, blood pressure and how you are eating and drinking
  • Blood tests for anemia, infection markers, blood sugar and kidney function
  • Better control of diabetes, which strongly affects wound healing
  • Review of painkillers, antibiotics and supplements for interactions
  • Nutrition advice on protein, iron and vitamin intake, and IV fluids or nutrients when there is a clear medical reason and your surgeon agrees
  • Advice on safe travel home, including clot prevention on long flights
  • English summaries to share with your surgeon or doctor at home

Who this suits, and who should go back to the surgeon

This consultation suits people who are recovering steadily and want an independent medical view, those with diabetes, anemia or other conditions that may slow healing, and travelers who want a safety check before a long flight.

Any additional IV is usually best avoided if you have heart or kidney problems, are on blood thinners, have a fever or suspected infection, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless there is a clear medical reason and your surgeon agrees.

Wound concerns such as opening stitches, a fluid collection, increasing redness or a change in the shape of the operated area belong with your operating surgeon, who knows exactly what was done. We will tell you promptly if that is where you need to be, and we can refer you to a hospital if needed.

Red flags after surgery: call 119

FAQ

Common questions

Can I get stem cell recovery after surgery in Seoul at VEI Clinic?

We offer a consultation about stem cell recovery after surgery in Seoul, not a stem cell drip. Dr. Park explains the evidence and the legal rules, checks how you are healing and recommends proven support that fits your surgeon's plan.

Do stem cell drips reduce swelling or scars?

There is no good evidence that they do for routine recovery. Swelling and scarring depend mainly on the type of surgery, your health, rest, compression and wound care as advised by your surgeon.

Is a vitamin IV after surgery a good idea?

Sometimes, for example if you cannot keep fluids down or have a measured deficiency. It should be agreed with your surgeon, and for most people eating and drinking well is enough.

When is it safe to fly home after surgery?

That depends on the operation and your surgeon's advice. Long flights raise the risk of leg clots, so ask about walking, hydration, compression stockings and whether you need blood-thinning medicine.

Will you change my surgeon's instructions?

No. Your surgeon remains in charge of the operation site. We focus on your general health and will contact or refer you back to them if anything concerns us.

What does a recovery consultation cost?

It depends on the length of the visit and any tests. We explain the full price before anything is done. National health insurance may or may not apply.
