Quick answer

For stem cell autoimmune therapy questions in Seoul, VEI Clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam offers a consultation with Dr. HyunSung Park, an internal medicine specialist and ISSCR member. He reviews your diagnosis and current treatment, explains what the research shows, which Korean legal pathway would apply and whether any option is suitable, while your rheumatologist or neurologist remains in charge.

Stem cell autoimmune therapy in Seoul: what we offer

Autoimmune diseases are long, tiring and unpredictable, so it is natural to look for something new. Searches for stem cell autoimmune therapy in Seoul often lead to wellness clinics offering infusions to balance immunity or calm inflammation. These offers usually go far beyond the evidence, and many involve products that contain no living stem cells.

VEI Clinic does not give stem cell infusions. We run a consultation-based program: Dr. HyunSung Park, a board-certified internal medicine specialist and member of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), reviews your diagnosis, past and current treatments, test results and goals. He then explains, condition by condition, what the research shows, the legal route any treatment would need in Korea, and whether any option is realistic for you.

What the research actually shows

The strongest evidence involves autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, in which a patient's own blood stem cells are collected and returned after intensive chemotherapy. In carefully selected people with highly active relapsing multiple sclerosis or severe systemic sclerosis, specialist centers have shown meaningful benefits. It is a demanding hospital treatment with serious risks, including life-threatening infection, and it is not a wellness drip.

Mesenchymal stromal cell infusions have been studied in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease and other conditions. Results so far are mixed and mostly early. Exosome and conditioned media products, often marketed for immune balance, contain no living cells and are not approved in Korea as injectable treatments.

Unproven products carry their own risks, including infection, allergic reactions, fever and, for people already taking immune-suppressing medicines, a higher chance that a contaminated product causes serious illness. The ISSCR advises patients to avoid stem cell interventions sold outside clinical trials or approved use, and to ask hard questions before paying for anything.

The legal pathway in Korea

In Korea, cell therapies are lawful only as MFDS-approved products for their approved indications, or under the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act, amended in February 2025, at designated regenerative medical institutions with an approved treatment plan. That second route is aimed mainly at serious, rare or hard-to-treat diseases, so some people with severe autoimmune disease may be candidates for assessment there. Dr. Park can explain how this works and help you prepare a referral with your specialist.

If you are offered a product anywhere, ask whether it contains living cells, what approval or approved treatment plan covers it, what follow-up is provided and who manages complications. Bring the answers, the consent form and any brochure, and Dr. Park will go through them with you line by line.

Who this suits, and an important warning

This consultation suits adults with a confirmed autoimmune diagnosis who want an independent explanation, people who have been offered a stem cell product and want it reviewed, and families helping a relative weigh up options.

Dr. Park can also look at the bigger picture of your health, including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and bone health, which are sometimes affected by long-term steroids or by the disease itself and are easy to overlook when appointments focus on one organ.

Please do not stop or reduce disease-modifying medicines, biologics or steroids in favor of an experimental product. Stopping suddenly can trigger serious flares, and stopping steroids abruptly can be dangerous. Any change should be agreed with your rheumatologist, neurologist or gastroenterologist.

Practical support we provide alongside your specialist

While your specialist directs disease treatment, an internal medicine clinic can make day-to-day life easier, especially for expats and frequent travelers:

  • Monitoring blood tests for medicines such as methotrexate, including blood count and liver and kidney function
  • Thyroid testing and ultrasound, since autoimmune thyroid disease is common
  • Vaccination planning, including flu and hepatitis B, with advice on which vaccines are unsafe on certain immune-suppressing drugs
  • Prompt assessment of infections, colds and urinary symptoms
  • English summaries and lab results to share with your treating team

Red flags: when to call 119

People on immune-suppressing treatment can become seriously ill quickly. Call 119 or go to an emergency department if you have:

  • Fever with shaking chills, confusion or feeling very unwell
  • Shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Sudden weakness, loss of vision or difficulty speaking
  • Severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood or black stools

FAQ

Common questions

Is stem cell autoimmune therapy in Seoul available at VEI Clinic?

We provide consultations on stem cell autoimmune therapy in Seoul, not infusions. Dr. Park reviews your case, explains the evidence and the legal route, and refers you through your specialist if a legitimate program may suit you.

Can stem cells reset my immune system?

Hospital-based stem cell transplantation can reset immunity in selected patients with severe MS or systemic sclerosis, but it involves chemotherapy and serious risks. Infusions sold for general immune balance have no good evidence behind them.

I have lupus. Should I try mesenchymal stem cells?

Studies in lupus have shown mixed results, and this is still considered experimental. Discuss any trial with your rheumatologist, and keep taking your current treatment unless they advise otherwise.

Can you replace my rheumatologist while I live in Seoul?

No. Specialist care stays primary. We can help with monitoring tests, vaccines, minor illnesses and coordination, and we can refer you to a hospital specialist in Seoul.

Are exosome infusions safe for autoimmune disease?

They contain no living stem cells, are not approved in Korea as injectable treatments and have not been shown to help autoimmune disease. Their contents and quality can vary.

How much does the consultation cost?

It depends on its length and any tests. We explain the full price before anything is done, and national health insurance may or may not apply.

This page is general information reviewed by a physician and is not a substitute for a personal consultation. Treatment suitability, benefits and risks differ for each person and are discussed with you before any care. In an emergency in Korea, call 119.
