Stem cell gut treatment in Seoul: start with the cause
Bloating, pain or irregular bowels have many treatable causes. A gut specialist consultation sorts out what is known, what is experimental and what to test now.

Before any stem cell gut treatment in Seoul, VEI Clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam offers a consultation with Dr. HyunSung Park, an internal medicine specialist with gastroenterology subspecialty training. He reviews your symptoms and records, explains what stem cell research shows for gut conditions, which Korean legal pathway applies, and which proven GI tests to do first.
Stem cell gut treatment in Seoul: what a consultation covers
Some clinics advertise stem cell gut treatment in Seoul as a way to heal the gut lining, fix bloating or rebalance immunity. These claims run well ahead of the science. VEI Clinic does not offer stem cell infusions for gut health. Instead, we offer a consultation-based program built around one question: what is actually causing your symptoms, and what is the safest way to treat it?
Dr. HyunSung Park is a board-certified internal medicine specialist, a gastroenterology subspecialist and a member of both the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) and the American Gastroenterological Association. In a one-to-one English consultation he goes through your history, past tests and treatments, then explains the evidence for any stem cell approach you are considering and whether it would be lawful and suitable in your case.
What the research actually shows for the gut
The most studied use of stem cells in digestive disease is Crohn's disease with complex perianal fistulas, where cells are injected locally into the fistula by a specialist surgeon. A product for this narrow use has been approved in Korea, but larger international trials have given mixed results. Studies in ulcerative colitis and other bowel conditions remain early.
For common problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, food intolerance, or recovery after antibiotics, there is no reliable evidence that stem cells or stem-cell products help. So-called leaky gut is not a recognized diagnosis that stem cells have been shown to treat.
Many products sold as stem cell gut therapy are exosome or conditioned media drips. These contain no living stem cells, and they are not approved in Korea as injectable treatments for gut wellness.
Unproven injections are not risk-free. Reported problems with unregulated cell and exosome products include infection, fever, allergic reactions and contamination, and buying them can delay the diagnosis of a condition that has an effective, well-tested treatment.
The legal pathway in Korea
In Korea, cell therapy is lawful only as an MFDS-approved product used for its approved indication, or under the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act, amended in February 2025, at a designated regenerative medical institution with an approved treatment plan. That second route is mainly for serious, rare or hard-to-treat diseases. If you have established inflammatory bowel disease and want to explore these options, Dr. Park can explain the route and refer you to a hospital IBD team.
Because Dr. Park is a gastroenterology subspecialist, he reads your past endoscopy, biopsy and imaging reports himself and can tell you whether anything important has been missed. Bring your records, even if they are in another language, together with a list of medicines and supplements and a short diary of your symptoms and meals over the past week or two. That way, the consultation starts from facts rather than from a product brochure.
Evidence-based gut care we offer instead
Most gut symptoms improve once the cause is found. At VEI Clinic, the work-up is tailored to your story and may include:
- Blood tests for anemia, inflammation, liver function and thyroid
- H. pylori testing, a common and treatable cause of stomach pain
- SIBO breath test for bloating linked to bacterial overgrowth
- Gastric pH, stool and parasite testing, and gut microbiome analysis where useful
- Abdominal ultrasound for the liver, gallbladder and pancreas
- Treatment for GERD, IBS, gastritis and infections, with diet advice
- Referral to a hospital for endoscopy or colonoscopy when needed
Who this suits, and red flags that cannot wait
This consultation suits adults with ongoing digestive symptoms who are curious about stem cell options, and people with a known diagnosis such as Crohn's disease who want an independent opinion. It is not a substitute for your gastroenterologist, and IBD medicines should not be stopped in favor of an experimental product.
Some symptoms need urgent hospital care. Call 119 or go to an emergency department if you have:
- Vomiting blood or passing black or bloody stools
- Severe or worsening abdominal pain, especially with a rigid belly
- High fever with abdominal pain, or signs of dehydration
- Fainting, a racing heart or severe weakness

Common questions
Does VEI Clinic offer stem cell gut treatment in Seoul?
We offer a consultation about stem cell gut treatment in Seoul, not infusions. Dr. Park explains the evidence and legal options for your condition and focuses first on finding and treating the cause of your symptoms.
Can stem cells heal a leaky gut or IBS?
There is no reliable evidence that they do. Leaky gut is not a recognized diagnosis, and IBS responds to well-studied approaches such as diet changes, targeted medicines and treating triggers like SIBO.
I have Crohn's disease. Are stem cells an option?
For complex perianal fistulas in Crohn's disease, local stem cell injection has been studied and a product is approved in Korea for that narrow use. Suitability is decided by a hospital IBD and surgical team, and Dr. Park can help you prepare for that referral.
What gut tests can I do the same day?
Many blood tests, H. pylori testing and ultrasound can often be arranged quickly, while the SIBO breath test needs preparation the day before. We will tell you exactly how to prepare.
Do you do endoscopy?
No. If you need gastroscopy or colonoscopy, we can refer you to a hospital and send an English summary of your history and results.
Is an exosome drip a stem cell treatment?
No. Exosome and conditioned media products contain no living stem cells and are not approved in Korea as injectable gut treatments. Their contents and quality can vary.
This page is general information reviewed by a physician and is not a substitute for a personal consultation. Treatment suitability, benefits and risks differ for each person and are discussed with you before any care. In an emergency in Korea, call 119.
