Quick intro

VEI Clinic Apgujeong provides Storz Medical™ shockwave therapy (radial/focused) with English-friendly care for travelers and Seoul residents. It’s a non-invasive, clinic-based option for select tendon, fascia, and muscle pains—minutes from Apgujeong Station (Exit 5).

What shockwave may help with (examples)

  • Plantar fasciitis, heel pain
  • Achilles or patellar tendinopathy
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow (lateral/medial epicondylitis)
  • Shoulder pain (incl. calcific tendinitis), rotator-cuff–related pain
  • Gluteal/hip tendinopathy, IT band issues, shin splints
  • Myofascial trigger points in the neck, upper back, or calves
Your clinician will confirm if shockwave is appropriate or suggest alternatives.

How it works (in brief)

Acoustic pressure waves are delivered to the target area to stimulate mechanotransduction, support local circulation, and disrupt pain cycles. Many patients notice progressive improvement over a short series of sessions.

Typical plan & session feel

  • Course: usually 4–6 sessions, 1×/week (customized after exam)
  • Time: ~10–15 minutes per treatment area
  • Sensation: firm, tapping/pressure pulses; intensity is gradually increased to a strong-but-tolerable level
  • After: temporary soreness or redness is common and typically resolves within 24–48 hours

On-site approach at VEI

  • Targeted exam to localize the pain generator(s)
  • Storz Medical device with settings tailored to your tolerance and tissue depth
  • Simple home program (stretching, load management); referrals to physio if helpful
  • Optional same-day services (e.g., analgesic injection or oral meds when indicated)

Prepare for your visit

  • Wear/bring shorts or easy-access clothing for the area treated
  • Eat/lightly hydrate beforehand
  • If possible, avoid NSAIDs and icing 24 hours before/after (unless instructed)
  • Tell us about steroid injections to the area within the last 4–6 weeks

Who should avoid or discuss first

  • Pregnancy (discuss timing/areas)
  • Bleeding disorders or on anticoagulants
  • Active infection, open wounds, or tumor at the site
  • Recent fracture or surgery in the target area
  • Implanted electronic devices/metal hardware near the treatment site (case-by-case)
  • If you have chest pain, severe shortness of breath, heavy bleeding, confusion, stroke symptoms, or very high fever, call 119 or go to an ER—shockwave is not an emergency treatment.

Visit flow (what to expect)

  1. Check-in & history → pain map, prior treatments, goals
  2. Focused exam → mark tender points/structures
  3. Shockwave session → progressive intensity with patient feedback
  4. Post-care plan → activity guidance, stretches, follow-up scheduling

  • Fees depend on area(s) and package size (single vs. multi-session)
